MALCOLM E. POLLEY, CFA®: Chief Market Strategist on the topic of

"Magnificent Seven and the Markets"

This presentation will discuss the impact of the structure of the S&P 500 (and other market cap weighted indices), comparisons to past markets with extreme valuations (i.e., the dot-com era) and the events that may have caused those extreme valuations.  We will also discuss the demographic underpinnings of the markets and provide our outlook on where we see the economy and markets for the balance of 2024 and into early 2025.

Sophia Duffy, JD, CPA, AEP®, teaches classes in estate planning, small business planning, and taxation at the graduate and undergraduate levels.  Duffy has published research on a variety of issues related to financial planning, including Discrimination in AI-based Insurance Underwriting, Vulnerability of Aging Investors, and award-winning research on Social Security Planning for High-Income Earning Women.  Duffy earned a Juris Doctorate from the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rutgers University. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and an Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®).

STEVE PARRISH, JD RICP© CLU© ChFC© AEP©  Steve Parrish is Professor of Practice and a Scholar in Residence at The American College of Financial Services, where he previously served as Co-Director of the Retirement Income Center.  He was also recently an Adjunct Professor of Estate Planning and Interim Director of the Compliance and Risk Management at the Drake University Law School.   With over 45 years’ experience as an attorney and financial planner, Parrish is an expert on retirement, estate, and business owner succession planning. He is a recognized industry authority, spokesperson and author serving as an ongoing contributor for both Forbes.com and Kiplinger.com and is a contributing author to the 2023 e-textbook Retirement Plans and Retirement Planning. He has also recently published in the Journal of Financial Service Professionals (where he also an Associate Editor), Journal of Financial Planning and Hastings Business Law Journal.

Parrish has served as an expert source for such prominent media outlets as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, National Public Radio, InvestmentNews, Money.com, USN&WR, and AARP The Magazine. He has also served as an expert witness. In addition, he is a sought-after speaker with bar associations, estate planning councils and AICPA meetings.  He has addressed such financial service organizations as AICPA, NAEPC, Finseca, MDRT, NAIFA, ABA, INC 5000, NAPFA, and Society of Financial Service Professionals.   

Parrish was employed in multiple positions at The Principal Financial Group from February 1997 until June, 2015 when he began his academic career with The American College and Drake University.  Prior to that, he served as vice president, marketing services for Amerus Life Insurance Company. He began his career as an attorney and advanced sales director and subsequently became a financial planner in Atlanta, where he was a co-owner of Walker Parrish Financial Group. Steve received his B.A., Cum Laude, from Saint Olaf College and his Juris Doctor degree from the William Mitchell College of Law.

Malcolm E. Polley, CFA®: Chief Market Strategist
Malcolm joined Stratos Investment Management in January of 2024, bringing over 30 years of industry experience. He acts as Chief Market Strategist and curates a range of market commentaries as well as facilitates in investment decision processes. Prior to joining Stratos, Malcolm led the effort to form Stewart Capital Advisors, LLC, an SEC registered investment advisory subsidiary of S&T Bank. He acted as President and Chief Investment Officer for 18 years. Malcolm began his career in 1987 on Black Monday; and he has held leadership positions with many financial services organizations including S&T Wealth Management, Marquette Trust Company, Marquette Advisory Services, and West Bank. He received a BBA in finance from Iowa State University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member and past president of the CFA Society of Pittsburgh. Malcolm has served as adjunct faculty at the Eberly College of Business and Technology at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Malcolm often presents to client, community, and industry groups; and he has been a frequent guest on various financial and investment programs including Squawk Box, Squawk on the Street, Power Lunch, Closing Bell, Fox Business, Bloomberg TV and Bloomberg Radio. One of those appearances is quoted by Andrew Ross Sorkin in his bestselling book, Too Big to Fail.
